How this calculator works
Applies flat-rate or progressive tax bracket tiers to total taxable income after subtracting standard or custom exemptions.
Formula
Taxable Income = Gross Income - Exemption; Total Tax = Sum(Band Taxable Amount × Band Rate %)
Worked Example
$60,000 income with a $10,000 exemption leaves $50,000 taxable. Band 1 ($0-$10k @ 0%) = $0; Band 2 ($10k-$40k @ 10%) = $3,000; Band 3 ($40k-$50k @ 25%) = $2,500. Total Estimated Tax = $5,500 (Effective rate: 9.17%).
Assumptions
- Tax brackets apply progressively from lower to higher income thresholds.
- Exemptions reduce total gross income prior to bracket rate application.
- Custom user rates accurately reflect local statutory tax codes.
Limitations
- Payroll taxes (Social Security, Medicare, National Insurance) are calculated separately.
- Local municipal taxes, tax credits, and complex itemized deductions are not auto-applied.
