How this calculator works
Aggregates personal assets (cash, investments, real estate, vehicles) and subtracts liabilities (mortgages, personal loans, credit card balances) to calculate total net worth.
Formula
Net Worth = (Cash + Investments + Real Estate + Valuables) - (Mortgages + Loans + Debt Balances)
Worked Example
Total Assets ($25,000 savings + $80,000 401k + $250,000 home = $355,000) minus Total Liabilities ($180,000 mortgage + $12,000 car loan = $192,000) yields a Net Worth of $163,000.
Assumptions
- Asset values reflect estimated fair market value.
- Liability figures represent current outstanding pay-off balances.
Limitations
- Non-liquid real estate and vehicle values fluctuate and may incur liquidation selling expenses.
- Unrealized capital gains taxes on retirement/investment accounts are not deducted.
