Total Annual Cost = (Monthly Premium × 12) + Out-of-Pocket Share (Deductible + Coinsurance capped at Max Out-of-Pocket).

How this calculator works

Estimates total annual healthcare out-of-pocket expenses by combining insurance premiums, deductibles, copays, and maximum out-of-pocket limits.

Formula

Total Out-of-Pocket = (Monthly Premium × 12) + Min(Deductible + (Covered Claims - Deductible) × Coinsurance %, OOP Max)

Worked Example

Monthly premium $300 ($3,600/yr), Deductible $2,000, Coinsurance 20%, Out-of-pocket max $5,000. For $10,000 in covered medical claims: Out-of-pocket = $2,000 + ($8,000 × 20% = $1,600) = $3,600 medical + $3,600 premium = $7,200 total annual cost.
